The Night We Met

It started at six, with the sun sinking low,
A “casual first date”—or so we would go.
You smiled over books, I pretended I knew
That your favorite dark blend was a very good clue.
Location number one was a little bit bright,
We laughed too quietly, but decided to make it a night. So, then location two came—
A Mexican café, where we forgot each other’s name.
By midnight, the stars were all out in the sky,
And neither of us seemed remotely shy.
Three locations later, with nowhere to flee,
We wound up somewhere neither had planned to be.
The evening had started with innocent cheer,
Then “just one more drink” became “why are we here?”
A first date, three stops, and a questionable plan—
The sort of adventure that ends with, “I’m a fan.”
By sunrise, the night had accomplished its feat:
Two strangers had turned into one tangled sheet.
No promises made, no “forever” in sight,
Just one memorable, wonderfully reckless night.
And when morning arrived with its rude little glare,
We laughed at the journey that got us both there.
Three places, one date, and a story well spun—
The night that we met… and the night we had fun.
