The Islanders

Folks from Long Island are friendly—“come on in, grab a chair,”

They’ll greet you like a cousin, then ask how you got there.
They’re outgoing and jovial, bold from shore to shore,
And somehow every casual chat becomes a friendly roar.

Long Islanders judge pizza with a serious face,

“Too much cheese? Crust too thick? This ain’t the place!”

They’ll drive twenty miles for the perfect slice,

Then say, “Back home, it’s better”—and order twice.

For sports, it’s New York teams—no matter wins or flops:
The Mets, the Yanks, the Giants, the Jets—support that never stops.
They’ll defend their favorite lineup, their coach, their pitcher too,
And blame the refs, the weather, and the moon for what they do.

They love a dive bar glowing underneath the neon light,
And all eateries that are open throughout the night.
A deli hero—authentic, stacked from end to end—
Could make a Long Island argument suddenly befriend.

They chase the beach, the sun, the waves, the salty spray,
Then cannonball in backyard pools about three times a day.
With flip-flops, shades, and confidence, they strut beneath the sky—
If there’s water within driving range, they’re probably nearby.

Florida calls their names: “Come down, the weather’s fine!”
They pack the sunscreen, beach chair, and a box of wine.
But even far from home, beneath a palm tree’s sway,
They’ll find a New York deli and complain it’s not the same.

Their accents roll like surfboards, punchy, proud, and strong,
Turning “coffee” into music and each vowel into a song.
They’re friendly, fast, and full of flair, with stories to explore—

And if you don’t love Long Islanders yet, they’ll charm you even more.
