Silent Witness

You call me love, you call me friend,
You swear you’ll stay until the end;
Yet when my footing slips away,
I catch a glimmer in your gaze.

You wear your kindness like a cloak,
And soothe me with each tender joke;
But when my hard-won hopes come loose,
You seem to savor each excuse.

You say, “I’m here,” then watch me fall,
A silent witness to it all;
Your hand is warm, your smile is bright—
But something in it feels not right.

The truth now rises, clear and strong:

I know where I can still belong.

Your hidden joy won’t chain me here;

I’ll leave it—believe me, dear.
